Naheem Liles, 22, of Mount Vernon has been charged with felony second-degree murder in connection with the Sept. 30, 2017 shooting death of Shaun Chadwick, 47, of Liberty.
Liles was arrested on Thursday, June 4 in New York City by officers from the Monticello Police Department, Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office and New York State Police.
Police say Liles, acting in concert with another person, shot Chadwick in the area of Holmes Street and Wood Avenue in the Village of Monticello.
An investigation revealed that, after he was shot, Chadwick was able to run the parking lot of the “It’s a Wash” laundromat on Forestburg Road before collapsing. He was later pronounced dead.
The investigation into Chadwick’s death remains ongoing.
Liles was arraigned remotely by video before Sullivan County Court Judge Hon. Mark Meddaugh and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail without bail.
“Together with my law enforcement partners, I will continue to commit the time and resources necessary to solve cold case homicides and bring those responsible for acts of violence in our neighborhoods to justice," Sullivan County Acting District Attorney Meagan K. Galligan said. "The loved ones of the victims of these heinous crimes deserve closure. I applaud the diligence of the dedicated police members of the Village of Monticello Police, State Police, and my Office who kept this case moving forward.”
